For the busy entrepreneurial mum

Get cosy, grab your morning coffee/tea it’s time to share…..

Ambitious, career focussed but wanting to spend as much time with your kids as you can without feeling the guilt, mums can you relate?

Sienna our wild spirit is turning 10 next month, wow! Can’t believe our creative, family organiser/kid organiser, courageous and outgoing daughter is hitting 2 digits not to mention that the hubby and I have been parents for 10 years. Thinking back it has been 10 years of joy, love, adventure and a lot of learning and patience along the way.44315842_172684180304033_4193860226799108096_n

The funny thing is, it’s also how long I have been an entrepreneur for, from online baby shop to everything in between and now sitting confident, passionate and belonging as I continue my journey as a Health, Wellness & Essential Oil Coach & Cottage Manager (will share that dream another time), I think back to each business I have started, thought of, tried to create and failed at ~ wow what a journey I have had.  If you know me well you know that I am not one to twiddle my thumbs I am always coming up with new ideas, ready to start a new venture and basically early riser and I am go go go…. Okay yes sometimes I also struggle with taking things slow and taking a deep breath but we can’t be perfect.

Over the last 10 years, not only have I dabbled in many businesses, jobs and at the same time finding myself, I have also struggled with not having that balance, feeling stressed, feeling anxious, down in the dumps and just not feeling myself at times.  At times I have felt like I have been the mum at home watching my very smart, intelligent and supportive husband succeed but I am the one that just want to leap out and go for it… I felt like I was at the sprint line ready to go but wasn’t going forward. And the truth is this has been a struggle for me as I was the kid that dreamt of owning my own hotel one day. I can recall a few times where I have felt anger, jealousy and resentment  towards my husband, yet he has been the one that has been there for me from day 1 and has been nothing but supportive, amazing, great listener and just wants me to be happy and for that I will always be grateful for and I have learnt a great deal from.

Tip  1# I believe that if you really want something only YOU can make it happen, who agrees?

And guess what after 10 years – finally feel like I have exactly what I was looking for, a successful doterra business, balance, flexibility to be with my kids,  no resentment towards my husband instead I ask for his advice and make sure he knows any upcoming plans or events. One of the reasons why I started selling essential oils is the COMMUNITY that I was longing for after returning from Dubai from a 4 years expat stint and having to leave my close knit friendship group  but we have now created a beautiful community of over 1600 members that we get to share, support and educate with all those that are looking for natural solutions when it comes to empowering their health and wellness. And these people have now become friends and friendships that I cherish.

Tip 2 # Communication is key – with your family members and hubby on your plans, events anything coming up – if you want to work from home you have to remember that you in your home so communication and organisation is vital.

So, what is the secret to finding balance, you just need to be YOU! If you have a dream follow it, if your not earning enough money to make this dream happen yet, find a part time job and work on your dream job on the side I have done this for 3 years now trust me it works and causes a lot less stress financially. But this is just the little bits.

I believe the secret formula is looking after your health and wellness as you build a thriving business. If the simple steps are not in place then you can’t thrive, think probably and you will not move forward.

Making lifestyle changes is the key to living a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle! Eat right fresh wholesome food, exercise 100% I have never felt better and currently in a 8 week challenge training 5 times a week, using my essential oils daily and making sure I get enough sleep and not working in front of my computer to 12 a clock at time, I am not productive then and it then upsets my whole lifestyle – no one wants a grumpy mumma!

Tip #3  I believe balance is what you want balance to be, for me it is when I pick my kids up from school I am there for them  from 3pm to bedtime. Don’t get me wrong this doesn’t happen everyday as there are times I might have to jump on my computer to  get something out or speak with a guest or customer but that is what my intentions are.

I know that other mummas are feeling this right now! And I  just want you to know that I am thinking of you and can’t wait to share more tips on how I am finding balance and peace within myself ❤ Being a ME, a mum, wife and entrepreneur are what I love, live and cherish.

Now the kids have woken up time to grab my coffee and get tons of cuddles, it’s Saturday!

Yesterday, I held a beautiful workshop on Essential Oils and incorporated all my knowledge on health and wellness into the workshop.. It then got me thinking this was the best of both worlds – sharing my passion of oils and at the same time sharing my knowledge on health & wellness and how excited I get when I am in front of others sharing all the information and connecting with real people…Everything is online now and have this opportunity to meet in person is definitely my thing.

So if you are health & wellness coach, whether you have been doing it for years or just starting out you have to read this and see if aligning with a product to support your business if your thing….

Are you a health & wellness coach? Are you passionate about supporting and encouraging others about their health & wellness and don’t know where to start (this was me about 2.5 years ago) then you are in the right place…. I am so excited to connect with you and hopefully inspire you to either become a health & wellness coach or to mentor you as you embark on your journey with experiencing doTERRA and incorporating it into your wellness business!

This is how I started…..

To empower women, especially mothers, to take control of their health & wellness through encouraging, supporting and educating them to embark on a journey they truly should deserve. And this means not comparing themselves to anybody else, feeling happy from deep within and to have a vision and why they want to feel amazing! Not to mention celebrating being a woman…

To support over 100 women in 2018 in Australia and the rest of the world to feel fabulous and to guide them as we work together to create goals and visions  on where they want to be in 2018…

To educate and teach women on how to get back to basics from cooking in the kitchen to reducing the toxins in your homes….

To share my knowledge and love of essential oils and how easy it is to incorporate them into your daily routine or business and how beneficial they are for your health & wellness.

I’m sure I am not the only one out there… Personally I have always struggled with finding my why in life! I love being a mum but at the same time I wanted to be proud of myself and what I have achieved (yes I have achieved a huge amount and I am very grateful for everything I have and have already achieved).. I have travelled the world, lived abroad (8yrs in total), met the man of my dreams, met so many amazing people that I can call friends for life, 3 kids later… and still I felt like there was something missing…It wasn’t until that I spoke to a friend who secretly coached me (she had a plan) that I realised I wanted to have it all including the career…. so I really thought about my passion FOOD, HEALTH, WELLNESS & HELPING OTHERS… I didn’t want to be a nutritionist instead I had this vision where I wanted to help women, especially mums, with their health & wellness and finding their WHY! So that is how it all began….

In 2014, I enrolled in an amazing course called “Lifestyle, Food & Wellness Coaching” through Cadence Health Australia. This course was exactly what i was looking for and I highly recommend for those who feel like this is the path for them. Leanne the founder, has been nothing but hands one, supportive during the whole period (including my time in Dubai). It was all online, easy to follow and the Wellness Coaching was incorporated into the program but ran by Wellness Coaching Australia.

Course is now completed… business plan is all typed up and and my vision was set… I have never been happier… I can still be around for my children, doing something that I love and my the career journey has began and it is only onwards and upwards from here.

So when I first started, and I am sure most health coaches can relate to this, I found it daunting and overwhelming and I didn’t know where to start…. I had the education, the passion and the vision but I really felt like something their was a gap in the service I provided.. and that is when doTERRA found me! So 2.5 years later… life back in Australia… the family I always wanted… the career I only dreamed of and I couldn’t be happier… Yes I am not going to lie it can be tough working from home and juggling a busy household but I wouldn’t have it any other way and I look forward to sharing my experiences with all of you amazing people so that you can also feel embark on this amazing journey!

For Health Coaches:

Like you, I am part of so many facebook groups/pages relating to health coaching… and I often get asked or read about other health coaches looking for ways to supplement their income whilst they build their health coaching business. And that is how I started with doTERRA….
About 2.5 years ago, I was looking for a natural product that I could incorporate into my health coaching business as well as support and provide an additional service to my clients that would benefit their health & wellness… and this is when I found and researched this amazing product called doTERRA… Since I have incorporated doTERRA into my business I have had nothing but positive feedback from my clients and also attracted a lot of new clients through all the workshops that I host around my community and in the comfort of their own homes.

Now that I have brought doTERRA into my personal life and love sharing it with my clients, one of my favourite things to do is to work with other health coaches (just like you!) to show you exactly how to incorporate dōTERRA into your health coaching business…

If this is something that would resonate with you and your business goals, I would  love the opportunity to chat with you further and to see if we could work together.

Health + Wellness + Essential Oils

“Make each day your masterpiece” ~ John Wooden

What do you have install for 2018?

One thing that I have definitely learnt this year is you need to live in the present as much as you can. The past is memories whether good or bad, the future is unpredictable but is waiting for you! However, more importantly we need to make sure that we are living in the present as you never know what is waiting around the corner for you.

Not sure about you but many times I get caught up in my thoughts about maybe something that has happened or worrying about the future. Instead we should be in the present and doing what we can to make a difference in the world or simply just being a mum, wife, sister or friend.

I feel that this year has been a mix of emotions both happy and sad, sickness, angels being taken from us too early and it makes you really reflect back on the year that has past, be so grateful for what you have and think about what is important to you and your family.

As I sit back with a cup of coffee and reflect back on the year that has past. I start to think about what we can achieve as a whole family not just me in the coming year. At this time of year I usually start creating my vision board, to do list and things I would personally like to achieve with work and personal life.

However, this year we are mixing things up a bit and doing something different…

We are rolling out a SIMONSEN FAMILY BUCKET LIST!!!!

Things that we can do as a family, personally, helping others, adventure, entertainment – enjoying every minute of time we have together – having goals as a family and making sure everyone feel they have items on that list that they would like to achieve…

So if this is something that you would love to do as a family, here are some of the ideas that we have come up with so far;

> Family time – picnic, beach dates, bikes rides, movies, bowling
> Family vacation – Sienna has asked to see real snow — not sure if the budget will allow it but at least we can plan and see if we can make her dream come true.
> Helping the community – feeding a family in need, help out where we can, donating Christmas gifts, donating old clothes
> Donating to a charity that resonates with our family
> Mum & Dad time – 6 x a year – this doesn’t include any weddings or work commitments ONLY 1:1 time – those with kids know how hard it can be to get out on a date night. We can each pick 3 things we would like to do together. For example I would love to go on a hike to see the figure 8 pools in the national park so this is on our list.
> Work achievements – what would you like to achieve this year!
> House renovations – We are actually going to start creating a separate list for this but we know we can’t do everything but we have a goal and vision on where we would like to be
> Sport achievements – Sutherland to surf, Sienna asked me to do a colour dash together
> Kids – Finish the school year and giving it all their best, learning to read for the 5yr old, stop wearing night nappies for the 3 yr old (he doesn’t really understand but I want to make sure that there are things on this list for him) – read a 10 books this year whatever it is they feel like they would like to achieve
> 1:1 Along time with each parent – each child gets to choose an activity that they would like to do with each parent – love this as life does get so busy and with 3 kids it can make it hard sometimes to spend quality time together so bring it on!
> There are also some random ones that the kids put in LOVE it – see a puppet show, Storm wants to go to a playcentre with just Lachlan, sienna would like a dedicated art & craft day

As you can see in the picture we started doing this last week when I took the kids out for lunch and on New Years Day we will finish it off as a family.

If creating a family bucket list resonates with you and your family.. do it, create it and stick to it! Then at the end of the year you can look back and see what you achieved as a family.

Tonight as we farewell 2017, take some time to think all the people in your lives that you cherish and are so grateful for having. Send your energy to all the people out there that are struggling or hurting at the moment and if you know someone that is reach out to them and offer your support. Maybe help them set some goals up for next year even if it is just one – coffee date with you!

As we ring in 2018 we wish you a Happy New Year! We would like to thank everyone that we have met, spent time with or have just been part of our lives this year and we are so excited for the year ahead, especially the things we can create, do, achieve and help others for the coming year!

Yoghurt – the question everyone asks

YOGHURT – the most asked question on my supermarket tours. When I take my clients around the supermarket they always want to know what yoghurt is best and which yoghurt has the least amount of sugar!!! My personal recommendation is to go for a Natural Greek Style yoghurt > full fat > with no added sugar,  instead add your own+  active & live cultures, you should be able to see list of cultures on the container!
If you and your family don’t like the tartness of the yoghurt here are my top 5 suggestions on making your yoghurt taste amazing with all natural ingredients!
1. Add a 1 to 2 drops of your favourite essential oil > the 4 that I use the most are grapefruit, wild orange, lemon or lime – natural flavour and no added sugar > just make sure that the oils you use are food grade 🙂  Interested in learning more about cooking with essential oils click here
2. Add lots of fresh fruit like kiwi fruit, berries, banana >my kids love it when i whip up a bag of frozen berries in the food processor then mix it through a pot of natural yoghurt + a tsp of vanilla bean > you can actually freeze them in little pots and make frozen yoghurt out of it or put back in the tub and then you have your own fresh batch of berry flavoured yoghurt
3. Add a tsp of St Dalfour strawberry jam – read the back of the ingredients panel there is no added sugar to this jam all natural fruit – this is great for babies instead of buying the sugary yoghurt and you can see exactly how much you are adding – 1/2 tsp should be plenty
4. Make it fun and add nuts, fruit, chia seeds, peanut butter what ever tickles your fancy get creative and make your own natural yoghurt kinda acai bowl – like in the pic above but instead you can blend berries and banana together and then decorate the top  with cocoa powder, coconut flakes, granola
5. Add your own natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup (need to be pure not the artificial stuff)
Would love to hear some of your favourite recipes please comment below on how you like your yoghurt!

Find your MUMMA tribe!

💕 Let’s get raw and let me introduce you to this amazing mumma tribe that I am apart of and who have supported and believed in me especially over this weekend..So grateful for all the new connections and stories that we have shared…
So now I am back from 2017 doTERRA convention, and I am on mission to make sure that I share what I learnt this weekend (not on how to use essential oils) but to make sure you find your MUMMA tribe! And why I am so passionate about sharing this with other mums, especially expat mums out there and the importance of being in a supportive and encouraging group of women.
If you have met me in person you will often hear me talk about my life in Dubai and how much I miss it and my friends.. Well this weekend was a real turning point for me, I felt connected and really part of a bunch of mums who are full of life, passionate, living their dreams and dedicated to not only supporting their group of friends but open to meeting new friends along their journey and this is why I loved the expat life.. I realised that what I was missing in my life in Australia was continually meeting and connecting with new people and sharing our stories.. nothing interests me more than hearing about where people have travelled and what they have accomplished in their lives.
During this weekend I was really emotional — well I think a lot of us were as we listened to the journeys of others heartbreak but so inspiring to see where they are now — but for me it was because I finally have found my WHY in life. As a mum and most of you can relate to this once you have kids life gets really busy and sometimes you feel lost in life and you really are not sure what to do as we all want some kind of life/work balance and of course to be around our kids..but for me my no. 1 was having a loving and supportive husband, kids and friends and family  and I very grateful for this and all my beautiful friends that I have in my life.. most of them since I was in primary school and some of them who I have met through my travels around the world – life wouldn’t be the same without all these beautiful people  – my no.2 was  I wanted to be successful in whatever I did, I wanted to do something that I was passionate about and willing to work my butt off for to get to where I want in life. I was continually searching high and low for this, questioned myself but what I didn’t realise was I was living my WHY and I didn’t even realise!
MY WHY is being a health & wellness coach to busy mums who need support and encouragement as they search for their why and want to live the high vibe/healthy lifestyle… my why is continually to educate others on essential oil and how they can be part of your daily lives. Through this WHY  I get to meet and continually be around amazing people all the time as I support and encourage them to kick-start their goals or health & wellness plans… It is not all about the food, exercise, sleeping right it’s about being part of a TRIBE of other woman who you can connect with, share stories but mostly be their for each other and having some #mummymetime ❤ ❤ ❤
I have never been so determined to helps others to find their why and I want to share my knowledge and love to attitude, especially other mums that feel the same. I want to make sure that expat mums have the same support network like they do in their own country and feel like they are part of a tribe.
So my mission this year is not only to support and encourage you to live a healthy lifestyle and put yourself first and to give yourself the time for personal growth and time for you ❤ ❤ ❤ but mostly to find your tribe.. If you have an amazing tribe now continue to love and support them but to remember to keep eyes and heart open as there are plenty of us out there looking for a tribe to be part of…
Shouting out to all the mums near and far, I want to extend the offer to you. If you would like to be part of our fun, passionate, international and high vibe tribe make sure to connect with me and let’s get you living your dreams 💕  Feel free to connect with me on facebook, join our Wholesome Mums Tribe or email me at I would love to hear from you and see how we can support each other!
Vanessa xx

We are only a couple of weeks away from school starting back in Australia, so I thought I would share with you some of the information that I have been researching about a getting my 3 little vikings back into a good sleep routine. As well as what I am currently doing to ensure that they are well rested to start the new school year! If you are like me during the school holidays I am a little bit more relaxed around their bedtime as we love sitting outside at night eating our dinner, the kids are having fun jumping on the trampoline while the parents sit back and enjoy catching up with a glass of wine!  Now that we are reaching the end of the school holidays I am slowly getting my kids back into a good routine so that they are ready to take on the new school year! Here is what I am implementing in my household this week:

> The National Sleep Foundation state that around 2 weeks before school starts, we should slowly start working with our children to implement a school/age appropriate sleep schedule… Having 3 kids at different ages I had to refresh my memory on how much sleep each child needs so I have found this sleep guide helpful.  This is what I will be aiming for 2 yr > 7pm to 6am >>>>>>>>> 4yr> 7.30pm to 6am >>>>>>>>>8yr> 8pm to 6.30am … I am hoping that this routine will give both my husband and I some time to spend with each child on reading them a book and give them some 1:1 time with each child.

>  Sticking to the schedule – Once my kids are in this routine I try and stick to this from Sunday to Thursday as Friday and Saturday nights we are usually out or having a family movie night! Plus when my kids are in a routine I find our house runs a lot smoother.

> Sleep time routine – Having a great bedtime routine is a great way for the kids to get them ready for bedtime so I actually start the sleep time routine from their dinner time. We usually have dinner between 5.30pm and 6pm depending on sport/work commitments. Once dinner is finished say at around 6.30pm – the kids will have their bath, brush their teeth, get their pj’s on and they are allowed to either play or watch some tv whilst I clean up the kitchen. From 7pm we start the bedtime routine and depending on who is taking the kids to bed the other parent will sit with the other 2. I think having a good routine leading up to bedtime it allow the kids to know exactly what to expect and their won’t be any surprises.

> Natural Sleep Support – If you have followed me for any length of time you know that I am an essential oil believer and user. I have used them consistently for about one year now, and sleep time is no exception. Here is how I use essential oils to support a healthy night sleep for my kids:

FOR THE GIRLS – Serenity blend – Serenity is a beautiful blend for girls that is both calming and relaxing. Depending on what kind of day my daughter has had I either add a cup of epsom salt and a few drop of serenity to the bath or I put a few drops on her pillow before bed and her cuddly toy – sometimes she won’t go to sleep without it.12983200_1712962302323137_7182133036545565583_o

FOR THE BOYS – Lavender + Balance blend (creates a sense of calm and grounding) – I have made up a roller bottle topped with coconut and the a few drops of each oil. I then rub it on the soles of their feet and and on their pillow before they bedtime. They have also become a little obsessed with the oil.. but i definitely think it helps with grounding my boys.. I did try having a diffuser in their room but they always seem to find it and tip the water all over the floor so maybe in a few years. Sometimes if I have had a full on day I add a few drops of Balance to the bath or diffuse it while they eat their dinner #2boys20monthsapart

> Nutrition – Well like you going to bed on a full stomach is uncomfortable and makes it hard to go to sleep, so it is definitely the same for kids. I try and allow at least 1.5hrs before bedtime for their food to digest. And it is best to avoid any sugary drinks at dinner time or before bed as they don’t need the extra energy trust me. Water is what  you will see on my families dinner table 🙂

Not sure about you but sometimes my kids complain that they are “still hungry” before bed so they can choose between some yoghurt, a glass of milk, a piece of bread with avocado or peanut butter or a banana.

I would love to hear about what you do to encourage a good night sleep in your household.

If you have any questions or would like to get your hands on the bedtime essential oils feel free to reach out as I am more than happy to help!
